UNION COUNTY, NJ — One person was severely injured late Monday night as a result of a pedestrian crash on U.S. Route 1/9 in Elizabeth, according to local media.
The incident occurred at the busy highway’s intersection with East Grand Street, just before 11:00 p.m.
Officials have not disclosed released any information regarding the circumstances of the crash, but the victim was struck by a vehicle.
Elizabeth Police and EMS personnel arrived on the scene to find the victim lying in the roadway and suffering from severe injuries. The patient was rushed to a local hospital where their condition remains unknown.
Authorities have not said whether the driver stayed after the crash or fled the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
