The fatal accident occurred at the West Madison Avenue crossing shortly after midnight.
A witness told authorities the young man was playing a game of “chicken,” and was trying to run across the tracks before a southbound train approached, but was hit.
The victim was pronounced deceased about twenty minutes after the crash, officials confirmed.
No further details have been released at this time, but the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification forensics team was asked to assist in the investigation.
