MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 39-year-old man died Tuesday evening after being struck by an Amtrak train east of Princeton Junction in West Windsor Township, according to Daily Voice.

Authorities said the fatal incident occurred at about 6:54 p.m. and involved Amtrak train 178, which had departed from Washington D.C. toward Boston.

It was unclear what led up to the event or why the male pedestrian was on the tracks at the time, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Plainsboro Police Department said it was working to notify the victim’s family.

Though train service was delayed up to three hours, no passengers or crew members on the involved train were reported hurt.

At this time, an investigation by Amtrak officials and Plainsboro Police remains ongoing.
