Man fatally hit by NJ Transit train at Short Hills Station

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A man died early Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Millburn Township, according to local media.

NJ Transit Police said the fatal incident occurred at Short Hill Station, near the east side of the platform, at around 12:19 p.m.

The circumstances behind the event were not immediately clear, but officials said the male pedestrian was hit by Gladstone Branch train 417. The train, which had departed Hoboken at 11:36 a.m., was scheduled for a 1:16 p.m. arrival in Gladstone.

No other injuries were reported among the 20 customers and crew members on board the train.

Following the event, officials announced up to 30-minute delays impacting the Morris and Essex Line and Gladstone Branch rail service in both directions.

An investigation by NJ Transit Police remains ongoing.
