OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 33-year-old man was fatally injured Wednesday morning when he was hit by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle in Toms River, reports Daily Voice.

Local police responded to the scene on the eastbound side of Route 37 at River Drive, just after 8:00 a.m.

Preliminary details show the male cyclist, a Little Egg Harbor resident, was heading west on the westbound shoulder of NJ-37 East. At one point, for reasons still unclear, he suddenly veered left into traffic and was hit by a vehicle traveling in the center lane.

Toms River EMS personnel rushed the cyclist to Community Medical Center with severe injuries. He was later pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.

The driver remained at the scene, where the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Hatzalah Volunteer EMS also responded.

Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Corporal Robert Westfall continues to investigate.
