Fire crews respond to tanker truck explosion in Port Newark

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A tanker truck exploded in flames late Wednesday afternoon along the Elizabeth Channel in Port Newark, reports local media.

The incident occurred on Starboard Street, in an area east of the New Jersey Turnpike (Interstate 95) and Newark International Airport. It was first reported shortly after 4:17 p.m.

While the circumstances of the explosion have not been specified, it reportedly drew concern from unspecified workers.

Local firefighters arrived to find the truck completely engulfed in powerful flames. Thick, dark smoke was observed emitting into the air from miles away.

Despite the severity of the fire, no one was reported seriously hurt.
