BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 78-year-old man from Paterson was hospitalized early Thursday after a tractor-trailer crash on Route 4 in River Edge, reports Daily Voice.

The collision took place on the eastbound lanes at the exit to Main Street, just after 1:30 a.m.

According to local police, the victim was driving a big rig, when, for reasons still unknown, it collided with a metal guardrail.

Borough police and firefighters of River Edge and Hackensack administered treatment to the male driver at the scene, but he was later transported to Hackensack University Medical Center. The extent of his injuries were unclear, but police said they were not considered life-threatening.

The incident had the exit closed, and only a single eastbound lane on Route 4 was left open for about three hours.. By 4:30 a.m., the scene had been cleared and all lanes were reopened to traffic.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck remains ongoing.
