ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — A 34-year-old New York man had to be rescued early Tuesday, hours after fleeing a wreck on the Atlantic City Expressway in Pleasantville, reports Daily Voice.
The incident occurred on the westbound side of the expressway’s E-ZPass lanes, at the Pleasantville Toll Plaza. New Jersey State Police troopers were dispatched to the scene at around 1:08 a.m.
According to authorities, the man was involved in a single-vehicle crash and fled the scene on foot before troopers arrived.
More than five hours later, at about 6:20 a.m., the hit-and-run suspect, identified as Jerome Reed, was spotted in the marshy area in close proximity to the crash site.
After being rescued by troopers and Pleasantville Police, Reed was evaluated by EMS personnel but ultimately declined medical attention. Charged with eluding, he was released from custody but is expected to make a court appearance.
