Teen cyclist dies after hit-and-run crash in Paterson

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A 17-year-old boy was fatally injured early Wednesday when he was struck by a vehicle while riding a bike in Paterson, according to NJ.com.

Mayor Andre Sayegh said the incident occurred near the corner of Park and Vreeland Avenues, in the East Side area, at about 3:00 a.m.

At this time, officials have not disclosed the circumstances of the event, but the driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived, leaving the victim seriously injured.

First responders rushed the teen to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

An investigation and search for the hit-and-run suspect remain open and ongoing. Local police have not issued a description of the fleeing vehicle or suspect as of this writing.
