BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Two teens were seriously hurt by a hit-and-run driver last Thursday while riding a scooter on the New Jersey Turnpike in Ridgefield Park, reports Daily Voice.

New Jersey State Police said the incident occurred on the northbound lanes of the turnpike on September 7, shortly after 12:30 a.m.

Preliminary details show a 16-year-old boy from Jersey City was operating a motorized scooter with an 18-year-old female passenger from Union City. At one point, both teens were struck by a vehicle, believed to be a white Ford transit van, which fled the scene without stopping.

Authorities said both teenage victims suffered serious injuries. As of this writing, no updates on their conditions have been disclosed.

Daily Voice notes that motorized scooters are illegal on the New Jersey Turnpike. Scooters are also prohibited on public roadways and sidewalks, as well as other public lands.

An investigation and search for the hit-and-run suspect remain underway. Anyone, anonymous or otherwise, who may have information on the incident is urged to contact the NJSP Criminal Investigation Office at the Troop D Newark station at (732) 441-4500, Extension 1430.
