ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Multiple agencies responded to reports of a vehicle that crashed into Newark’s Weequahic Lake early Wednesday, according to local media.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Office said they first received the call about the incident at the lake, within Weequahic Park, at around 5:30 a.m.
Details remain limited at this time, but reports suggest a pickup truck veered off a roadway in the park and crashed into the body of water.
Members of Newark Emergency Responders’ contingency joined the Lyndhurt Fire Department’s Dive Search and Rescue Team at the scene to search for possible trapped occupants in the submerged pickup.
Though crews confirmed a vehicle was in the water, an underwater search did not yield any immediate reports of injuries.
No other information has been made available, but authorities continue to investigate.
