BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Three people, including a police officer, were hospitalized Wednesday night after a pursuit led to a pair of crashes in Paramus, reports Daily Voice.
The first crash occurred on the dead-end of Farview Avenue, shortly after 11:30 p.m.
Paramus Police said two officers initiated a pursuit on a Hyundai Tucson during a response to an attempted auto theft along Lawrence Drive. The SUV, which was later discovered to have been stolen, led the officers onto Farview Avenue before its driver spun the vehicle around and hit one patrol vehicle.
As one officer continued to follow the suspect vehicle, other officers tended to the officer who was in the struck patrol car. First responders later transported the hurt officer to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries believed to be moderate.
Soon after the fleeing SUV failed to stop at the red light at Century and Paramus roads, it T-bone a Lexus SUV.
Three occupants in suspect SUV, ages 17, 16, and 15, all attempted to flee but were apprehended by responding officers.
Two women in the Lexus, ages 56 and 22, received treatment at the scene and were also transported to HUMC with undisclosed injuries.
Authorities said the 17-year-old male driver of the stolen car faces multiple charges, including “aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and eluding.” He has since been booked into Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in Teterboro pending a closed-door hearing in Hackensack. The two other involved teens received delinquency complaints and were taken back to their respective homes in Newark.
