1 dead, 3 injured in tractor-trailer crash at NJ Turnpike toll plaza

CARNEYS POINT TWP, NJ (SALEM COUNTY) – A resident of Georgia was killed and multiple others were injured in a tractor-trailer crash at the New Jersey Turnpike toll plaza in Carneys Point earlier this week.

According to the Daily Voice, the crash happened at the toll plaza in Salem County at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a Freightliner truck hauling a flatbed trailer crashed into the rear of a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The impact caused the semi-truck to overturn onto its passenger side.

A passenger in the tractor-trailer, a 23-year-old resident of Augusta, Georgia, was pronounced dead after the crash.

The truck driver, another 23-year-old from Augusta, Georgia, was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for critical injuries.

The two occupants of the pickup truck sustained non-critical injuries in the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate at this time.
