ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A 41-year-old woman died last Wednesday, August 2, after being struck by a garbage truck while in a lying position in Newark, reports Daily Voice.
Authorities said the fatal incident occurred in the 100 block of Clinton Avenue, near The Universal Church, at about 4:30 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate the victim, Vitina Stern, was lying on the ground when a nearby dumpster was being emptied out by the truck. At one point, the vehicle made fatal contact with her.
At 5:23 a.m., first responders pronounced Stern deceased at the scene.
It was not immediately clear why the victim was lying on the ground, and no other information has been provided at this time, but an investigation remains underway.
As of this writing, authorities have not made any related arrests or reported any pending charges.
