MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 75-year-old California woman died early Thursday after a chain-reaction crash on the New Jersey Turnpike near Carteret, reports Daily Voice.

The fatal collision occurred on the inner southbound roadway near milepost 95.3, shortly after 12:00 midnight.

According to New Jersey State Police, a Toyota Prius was traveling behind a Lincoln Navigator in the right lane, when, for reasons unknown, the two vehicles collided. The impact of that crash sent the Prius into the left lane, where it struck a Nissan Murano.

The driver and another passenger of the Murano suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening.

The Toyota driver, 19, was transported to a local hospital with non-fatal injuries.
