SALEM COUNTY, NJ — A crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car last Wednesday near Upper Pittsgrove claimed the life of an 81-year-old woman, reports Daily Voice.
The fatal crash happened at U.S. Route 40 (Chestnut Street) and County Route 677 (Burlington Road), on August 16, at about 9:30 a.m.
New Jersey State Police said Elmer resident Linda Krause was driving a Cadillac XTS northbound on Route 677 at the same time an International 760 was heading eastbound on US-40. It was unclear which party was at fault, but the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Krause suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.
Another 81-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Cadillac was seriously hurt. No other information on her condition has been released.
The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries considered non-life-threatening.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of US-40 were shut down in the immediate aftermath, as well as the northbound and southbound lanes of County Route 677. After about five hours, the scene was announced cleared and reopened to traffic.
