Woman hit, killed by tractor-trailer on US-9 in North Bergen

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A woman died Friday afternoon after a pedestrian crash involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 9 in North Bergen, according to local media.

The fatal incident occurred on a span of the highway (Tonnelle Avenue) at 91st Street. North Bergen Police responded to the scene after receiving a call at about 12:04 p.m.

Few details have been disclosed, but authorities said a 38-year-old Texas man was behind the wheel of a southbound tractor-trailer that hit the female pedestrian. After continuing down the roadway, the driver stopped near 68th Street and notified dispatchers.

Officers arrived to find the woman without signs of life. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

At this time, an investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department remains in progress.

As of this writing, no arrests have been made and no pending charges have been reported.
