PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A 67-year-old woman died a day after being struck by a vehicle Friday, September 23, while walking her dog in Hawthorne, according to NJ.com.
The Hawthorne Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office said the fatal incident occurred on Metro Vista Drive.
An early investigation indicates a 76-year-old woman was driving a 2018 BMW southbound when, for reasons still unknown, the car traveled off the roadway. It then collided with multiple “stationary items” before striking the female pedestrian.
The victim suffered serious injuries. She was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where she was pronounced deceased the following day.
Officials said the driver was taken to the same hospital for minor injuries.
An investigation remains ongoing. As of Thursday, October 6, no charges have been filed against the driver.
