MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 53-year-old woman was killed late Sunday morning while riding a motorcycle that hit an SUV on a U.S. Route 9 offramp in Old Bridge, reports NJ.com.

The fatal wreck took place on the U.S. Route 9 northbound ramp to New Jersey Route 18 northbound, at around 11:00 a.m.

Authorities said the woman, Andrea Houlihan, a Sayreville resident, was a passenger on a motorcycle with a male operator. The pair was traveling on the connector ramp when a vehicle entered the ramp and then abruptly crossed past the painted median to re-enter US-9. The sudden move prompted all other nearby vehicles on US-9 to stop. Moments later, the motorcycle struck the back of an SUV, causing both the motorcycle operator and Houlihan to eject.

Houlihan was pronounced deceased following the crash, confirmed officials.

The motorcycle operator suffered serious injuries. As of Friday, no information on his condition has been disclosed.

Old Bridge Police said the driver of the SUV, who cooperated with an investigation, was found not at fault in the accident.

No further information on the vehicle that crossed the median has been released, as its driver fled the scene.
