HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – A woman was airlifted from the scene of a rollover accident on Interstate 78 in Clinton Township Wednesday afternoon.

According to NJ.com, the woman was trapped insider her SUV after it rolled off westbound I-78 near milepost 18 at about 3:50 p.m. She had swerved to avoid debris in the travel lanes and struck a light pole before overturning off the roadway.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and extricated the victim from the SUV in the tree line next to the freeway. All westbound lanes were closed temporarily while emergency crews worked. The eastbound lanes were also shut down for a few minutes for a helicopter to land.

The woman was taken to the trauma center at Morristown Medical Center.

Local police are investigating the incident.
