Westfield police officer injured by shoplifter

WESTFIELD, NJ – A Westfield police officer was injured last week while attempting to apprehend a car thief in a pursuit and crash last week.

According to Patch.com, authorities reported to a shoplifting call at the Walgreens on North Avenue last Thursday. The call came at about 8:30 p.m. The call also said that a stolen vehicle was involved in the crime.

The suspects headed east from the scene. After confirming by the license plate that the car was stolen, Officer Eric Carrero began chasing the car until they hit his vehicle and injuring the officer.

Four people were charged in the incident. Anthony Frazier, 50, Stuart Sanders, 50, Sumac Shabazz, 46, and Altriq Lampley, 47 are all facing various charges that include shoplifting, receiving stolen property, eluding, assault by auto, and criminal mischief.

Carrero was transported to a local hospital for treatment but has been released.
