UPDATE: Pedestrian identified after fatal Bridgewater crash

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A 38-year-old Morristown man has been identified as the pedestrian fatally hit early Thursday on Interstate 287 in Bridgewater Township, reports local media.

New Jersey State Police said the incident occurred on the southbound lanes near mile marker 16, at North Gaston Avenue, at 2:29 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the victim was walking in the left lane of I-287 southbound when he was struck by a Volkswagen Tiguan, which was also traveling in the left lane behind the the pedestrian.

Officials said the victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver, who was not reported hurt, stayed after the event and cooperated with responding officers.

At this time, officials continue to investigate. No pending charges have been reported.
