BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 26-year-old Paterson man has been arrested a week after a car fatally hit a woman on Tuesday, January 3, outside her home in Garfield, according to Daily Voice.
Authorities said the incident occurred on Outwater Lane near Alaska Street at around 8;51 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the victim, a 51-year-old woman, was crossing the street in front of her residence when she was struck and dragged about 50 feet by a dark-colored 2010 Honda Civic heading eastbound. Surveillance footage recovered from the area shows the car then turning and driving off.
First responders rushed the woman to Hackensack University Medical Center, but she later succumbed to her injuries.
An intensive search by detectives in the Major Crimes Unit of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, along with assistance from Garfield Police, later led to the arrest of the Paterson man, a local real estate agent.
The suspect faces multiple criminal charges and has also received a number of motor vehicle summonses. He is expected to make his first appearance in the criminal courts at Hackensack’s Central Judicial Processing Court.
