MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 33-year-old Freehold man died early Wednesday after his car was hit by a fleeing vehicle off U.S. Route 9 in Old Bridge, reports Daily Voice.

The fatal collision occurred off the southbound lanes near the intersection with Spring Valley Road shortly after 2:15 a.m.

According to authorities, a Marlboro police officer was pursuing a stolen vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Somerset man. At one point, the fleeing vehicle collided with another vehicle near the intersection.

The victim, who was an occupant in the vehicle, died as a result of injuries suffered in the wreck. Multiple other members of his family who were also in the vehicle were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Charges against the causing driver include “first-degree aggravated manslaughter, four counts of second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree eluding, and employing a juvenile.” That juvenile, a 17-year-old male, has since been charged with “an act of juvenile delinquency.”
