MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — A 78-year-old man was killed Wednesday night when his box truck was struck by a big rig on the New Jersey Turnpike in East Brunswick, reports NJ.com.
New Jersey State Police said the fatal incident occurred on the northbound side of the turnpike, near milepost 78.8, at about 10:45 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate the Giuseppe Zuccarello, a resident of Whitestone, New York, was operating a white, 25-foot Isuzu box truck northbound in the highway’s truck lane. At one point, for reasons still unclear, a tractor-trailer hit the box truck on its driver’s side door. The tractor-trailer then continued away from the scene before authorities arrived.
Zuccarello sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.
At this time, NJSP continues to investigate and search for the hit-and-run suspect.
