MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Two teenage boys were arrested after a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday in East Brunswick that left another juvenile critically injured, according to local media.

Authorities responded to the scene on Ryders Lane near Winton Road at around 11:32 a.m.

The cause of the crash has not been disclosed, but preliminary details indicate the juveniles were in an unspecified vehicle that hit a Mercedes SUV. The impact of that initial crash caused the Mercedes to overturn and collide head-on with a Honda. A tractor-trailer was also struck during the crash.

Officers arrived to find at least four vehicles with visible damage.

The driver of the Honda and their juvenile passenger were both transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Officials said the driver has since been released, but the juvenile remains listed in critical condition.

No other injuries have been reported, but the two teens in the causing vehicle were arrested and charged with an act of juvenile delinquency. Officials said if the teens were charged as adults, one teen would be facing two counts of “Aggravated Assault” and three counts of “Assault by Auto,” while the other teen would face one count of “Endangering the Welfare of a Child.”

The teen suspects were booked into Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center. A preliminary hearing on Friday, May 26, determined that both teens will stay housed at the center.

An investigation remains active and ongoing.
