UNION COUNTY, NJ — A 17-year-old girl was killed Monday night in a crash near an Elizabeth intersection that left two other teenagers injured, according to local media.
Authorities said the collision took place off the corner of Slater Street and First Street in the city’s Elizabethport area, at about 8:00 p.m.
The circumstances of the accident remain unclear at this time, but preliminary details show the girl was in the front-passenger seat of a vehicle driven by another teen, believed to be about 19 years of age.
The 17-year-old girl, a student at Elizabeth High School, was pronounced deceased.
Both the teen driver and another teenager who was sitting in the rear passenger seat survived the wreck “without fatal injuries”, but officials have not disclosed the severity of their conditions.
An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway, with assistance from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
