BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A teenager died late Thursday afternoon after being struck by a commuter train near Broadway station in Fair Lawn, according to Daily Voice.
New Jersey Transit officials said the fatal incident occurred on the tracks between the station and Morlot Avenue, just after 4:30 p.m.
While the circumstances of the event remain under investigation, the 66 train, of the Port Jervis Line, was traveling southbound when it fatally hit the teen pedestrian. Sources with close knowledge of the incident said the victim was an 11th-grader.
Authorities said about 100 customers and crew were on board the train at the time, but no one else was reported injured.
The train had departed from Middletown, New York at 3:20 p.m. for a scheduled 5:13 p.m. arrival in Hoboken. Service was temporarily halted in both directions from Ridgewood to Plauderville as an investigation was conducted.
