ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — An 18-year-old from Egg Harbor Township died Sunday evening after a head-on crash in Hamilton Township that injured four other people, reports Daily Voice.

Hamilton Township Police said the fatal wreck occurred on U.S. Route 40 at 7:54 p.m.

Preliminary details show the teen, Jamyre Dewey Jr., was driving a Mitsubishi Galant eastbound on US-40 when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle veered past the center line. As the Mitsubishi entered the westbound lane, it collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota Highlander.

Dewey Jr., who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two 18-year-old passengers in the Mitsubishi were rushed by airlift to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City with serious injuries. A third passenger in the vehicle, of Mays Landing, was transported by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division.

First responders had the driver of the Toyota, 66-year-old Joseph Tancredi, of Pennsylvania, taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A section of US-40 was shut down for four hours during the emergency response and investigation.

Multiple area agencies assisted at the scene.
