ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — A 17-year-old boy was formally charged Monday after a wreck early this month that seriously hurt two other teens in Egg Harbor Township, reports Daily Voice.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Mill Road and Tremont Avenue on Tuesday, November 1, at around 7:15 a.m.

According to Egg Harbor Township Police, the teen was driving westbound on Mill Road at a high rate of speed when he veered off the roadway to avoid another vehicle that had entered the intersection. Officials said his vehicle slid across grass before colliding with a tree.

First responders worked for nearly 45 minutes to extricate the vehicle’s front-seat passenger, another 17-year-old boy, who suffered several leg fractures and internal injuries. That teen and another 17-year-old passenger who was in the rear-seat were hospitalized. No information on the condition of the third teen has been disclosed, but officials said both patients face a long recovery.

It was unclear whether the teen driver sustained any injuries, but he has since been charged with two counts of assault, as well as multiple “summonses for speeding, reckless driving, and careless driving.”

The other driver, also 17, was not charged or cited in the event.
