Person hit, killed by train near Aberdeen-Matawan station

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — One person died last Friday morning, October 13, after being struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Aberdeen Township, according to Daily Voice.

The fatal incident was reported on the tracks near Cliffwood Avenue, just past Aberdeen-Matawan station, at around 8:05 a.m.

According to NJ Transit officials, North Jersey Coast Line train 3326 was traveling northbound when it fatally hit a pedestrian, whose identity remains undisclosed.

The victim was pronounced deceased following the event.

Authorities said the striking train had departed Bay Head at 6:53 a.m. and was set for a 9:03 a.m. arrival at Penn Station New York. None of its 200 customers or crew were reported injured.

Following the crash, North Jersey Coast line rail service was paused in both directions from South Amboy to Long Branch. Service later resumed, but trains were delayed by up to an hour.

An investigation by the New Jersey Transit Police was underway.
