PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — One person was severely injured late Thursday night when they were struck by a train in Paterson, according to local media.
The incident was reported on the tracks in the area of East 28th Street and 19th Avenue, just north of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Public School. Multiple agencies were dispatched to the scene shortly before 12:00 a.m.
Authorities did not say why the pedestrian was near the tracks prior to the crash, but first responders arrived to find the victim seriously injured.
The patient was administered immediate medical attention and then rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where their condition remains undisclosed.
Following the crash, Susquehanna Railroad had all rail traffic suspended in the area as an investigation was conducted.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has since been made aware of the event.
