Pedestrian fatally hit by vehicle on NJ-36 in Keyport

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A woman died early Saturday, August 19, after being struck by a vehicle on Route 36 in Keyport, according to local media.

Keyport Police Department officers responded to the scene at the intersection with Atlantic Street, just before 1:30 a.m.

It was not immediately clear what circumstances led up to the incident, but officers found the adult female victim suffering from critical injuries consistent with a pedestrian crash.

First responders rushed the victim to Bayshore Medical Center. Shortly after 2:15 a.m., officials pronounced her deceased. Her identity remains undisclosed as her family is being notified.

The involved driver, a woman whose identity has also not been made public, stayed after the crash and cooperated with authorities.

An investigation remains open and ongoing. At this time, no criminal charges has been filed and no traffic summons has been reported.
