MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A man died early Sunday morning after being struck by a North Jersey Coast Line train in Spring Lake Heights, reports local media.
New Jersey Transit officials said the fatal incident occurred on the tracks just east of Spring Lake station at around 3:03 a.m.
The circumstances of the event remain unclear, but preliminary details indicate North Jersey Coast Line train 4795 had left Long Branch at 2:42 a.m. and was heading southbound for a 3:22 a.m. arrival in Bay Head. At one point, the train hit and fatally injured the victim.
None of the eight customers or the crew on board the train reported any injuries.
Because the striking train was the last train in service for the day, no other travel times were impacted.
An investigation by New Jersey Transit Police was underway.
