HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Three people, including an off-duty police officer, were injured last Thursday in a wreck at an active crash scene near Kearny, according to 1010 WINS.
The collision occurred at 1249 Newark-Jersey City Turnpike on August 25, at around 11:32 p.m.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, a group of Good Samaritans were helping two other drivers who had been involved in a two-vehicle crash. At one point, a 29-year-old woman in a white 2007 Mercedes crashed into a parked car belonging to one of the Good Samaritans.
Officials said the impact of the crash caused one of the vehicles to burst into flames.
An off-duty officer suffered multiple burn injuries and was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center.
The driver of the striking car was transported to University Hospital with a serious leg injury.
It was unclear how the third victim was impacted.
An investigation by the Kearny Police Department and HCPO was underway.
