Motorcyclist dies after hit-and-run near Manchester Township

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — A 23-year-old man has died after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle Friday on near Manchester Township, reports Daily Voice.

Manchester Township Police said the incident occurred near 1881 Route 37 on August 4. Officers were dispatched to the scene at around 10:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates Yasmin Sanchez-Centeno, a 22-year-old Toms River resident, was pulling out onto Route 37 in a 2005 Nissan Murano when they failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle. Authorities said the victim, 23-year-old Jeffrey Schlinger, who was operating a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle, was unable to avoid the car. Schlinger collided with the Nissan Murano’s back passenger side door and suffered serious injuries.

Sanchez-Centeno failed to stop after the crash and continued eastbound on the highway. When their vehicle eventually became disabled, they exited and fled on foot into a wooded area. They were ultimately located and apprehended by Manchester Township Police. Authorities said the suspect, who failed all of the field sobriety tests administered, was also taken to Community Medical Center for a court-authorized blood draw. They were then booked into Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

First responders rushed the victim to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he died the following day.
