ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — A 70-year-old man from East Orange died Saturday night after a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in Irvington, according to local media.
The fatal incident took place at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Linden Avenue. Local police responded to the scene at around 10:07 p.m.
It remains unclear at this time what circumstances led up to the victim, Bernard Jones, being struck by the vehicle, but the driver fled from the scene before authorities arrived.
First responders rushed him to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Officials confirmed he succumbed to his injuries at 10:20 p.m.
No arrests have been reported as of this writing, but an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Crime Scene Investigations Bureau (CSIB) is open and ongoing.
