UNION COUNTY, NJ — A 61-year-old Plainfield man died Monday morning after a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 22 in northeast Mountainside, reports NJ.com.
The fatal crash happened on the westbound highway just west of the Springfield border, across from from the AMC Mountainside 10 movie theater. Mountainside Police responded to the scene shortly after 6:45 a.m.
Details remain limited, but authorities said the man was driving westbound, when, for reasons still being investigated, his vehicle veered off US-22 and collided with a utility pole.
Despite life-saving measures from first responders, the victim died from his injuries at the scene.
