SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — A New Brunswick man died Monday evening following a multi-vehicle crash in the Somerset area of Franklin Township, according to Daily Voice.
The accident happened on Hamilton Street near the intersection with Hillcrest Avenue, at around 5:30 p.m.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor, the New Brunswick man, Mario Heslop, was driving a 2013 Infiniti Q50S eastbound in the left lane of Hamilton Street. At one point, for unknown reasons, he veered past the center line at the intersection and hit a westbound vehicle driven by a Hillsborough resident in the left lane. The second vehicle was then rear-ended by a third vehicle, also traveling westbound in the left lane of Hamilton Street.
First responders administered treatment to Heslop at the scene before rushing him to a trauma center. He later succumbed to his injuries, confirmed officials.
The Hillsborough resident, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to an area hospital. It was unclear whether the third driver sustained injuries, but they declined medical treatment at the scene.
The Franklin Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team continue to investigate.
