BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A 29-year-old man from Chester died Saturday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash off Route 287 in Mahwah, according to Daily Voice.

Authorities said the fatal accident occurred on the northbound side of the highway near Campgaw Road, just before 1:00 p.m.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but preliminary details indicate the man was driving a Jeep Wrangler northbound when the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. It then went down an embankment, collided with a tree, and spun counter-clockwise, ejecting the driver.

First responders had part of the highway shut down as a Northstar medical helicopter landed in the area. The victim was flown to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after, confirmed officials. He has since been identified as Vincent Infinito.

Northbound motorists were diverted off the highway in the Franklin Lakes area. The northbound right lane was blocked off for about four hours during the response, and the left lane was periodically closed, causing a significant traffic backup.

No further information has been released at this time.
