Male pedestrian hit, killed by NJ Transit train in Aberdeen

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A man died early last Friday, August 18, after being struck by an NJ Transit train in the Cliffwood area of Aberdeen Township, reports NJ.com.

Local police said the incident occurred on the tracks near Cliffwood Avenue West, just after 7:00 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, North Jersey Coast Line Train No. 3320, which had departed from Bay Head at 5:55 a.m. and was scheduled for an arrival at New York Penn Station, had left the Aberdeen-Matawan station a shortly before when it hit the male pedestrian.

The victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Authorities said nearly 350 people were on the train at the time, but no one else was reported hurt.

At 10:15 a.m., train service between Long Branch and South Ambroy was suspended in both directions as an investigation was conducted.

No other information has been shared at this time.
