Haworth: Crash Leaves Teen with Serious Injuries

>
A teenager was left fighting for his life after a crash in Haworth last Thursday, October 17.

Haworth Detective Sgt. Justin Fox identified the victim as a 17 year-old teenage from Oradell. Investigation around the accident discovered that the victim was driving his 2002 Toyota 4Runner at around 9:40 p.m. in Lake Shore Drive near Suez water treatment plant. The victim then lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree in front of the Suez water treatment plant.

Police authorities at the scene said the crash was so severe that the victim was pinned inside of his vehicle. Emergency responders had to carefully extricate the teenager from his wrecked vehicle. The victim was then taken to Hackensack University Medical Center where it was determined that he had life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation and the cause of the accident is still unknown. There were no other passengers in the vehicle, thankfully.

First and foremost, we would like to send our sympathies to the teenager who suffered serious injuries from this accident. We hope he recovers well from this incident. At age 16, teens may apply for a special learner’s permit in the state of New Jersey. Teens and their parent or guardian need to visit the local Motor Vehicle Commission office and bring required identification documents and proof of enrollment in a driver training course. Teens age 17 may apply for an examination permit without proof of enrollment in a driver training course. Teens must pass the written driver’s knowledge test and a vision test to receive a special learner’s permit or examination permit. We urge parents of teenage drivers to enroll them in a driver training course to help them have the knowledge to deal with situations that may lead to a road accident.
