PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Six pedestrians and about 16 parked vehicles were struck by a suspected drunken driver Saturday night near central Paterson, according to NJ 101.5.

The incident occurred over a span of the one-way 16th Avenue between Straight Street and Madison Avenue, north of the Sandy Hill area. It was first reported shortly after 10:00 p.m.

An early investigation indicates a driver in a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on 16th Avenue when they hit up to 16 vehicles parked along the street.

A total of six pedestrians were hit, but only one patient was transported to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries. The remaining five received treatment for more minor injuries at the scene.

It was unclear what led up to the event, but footage captured the pickup emitting smoke and sparks as it made its way down the road. In addition to the damage to multiple vehicles, a NJ Transit bus stop was also knocked down.

The driver was taken into custody and has since been charged with DWI (Driving While Intoxicated). Multiple other charges are said to be pending.
