UNION COUNTY, NJ — Two people were seriously injured Wednesday night due to a crash on Interstate 278 in Linden, according to local media.
The accident occurred on the westbound lanes near Morses Mill Road. Linden Police said officers responded to the scene at around 7:00 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate a 45-year-old Avenel resident was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima westbound on I-278. At one point, the vehicle collided with a 1999 Buick Lesabre that was exiting from the left-turn lane of I-278 onto Morses Mill Road.
The Nissan driver and the Buick driver, a 56-year-old Long Island man, both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the accident. First responders rushed the patients to Newark University Hospital.
According to Linden Police, the driver of the Nissan was later taken into custody and charged with DWI (Driving While Intoxicated).
The Linden Police Traffic Bureau continues to investigate. Anyone with information is encouraged to call investigators at (908) 474-8505.
