FAIRFIELD, NJ – A DWI driver crashed into a police vehicle after a chase on Route 80 Tuesday morning, according to Daily Voice. No injuries were reported.

The chase began at about 12:30 a.m. when the driver of a BMW was stopped by police on Route 80 westbound near milepost 60 in Paterson. The driver, 21-year-old Joel Liberato of New York City, sped away from the scene as an officer walked up to his vehicle.

The officer began to pursue the BMW for almost 5 miles on Route 80 into Fairfield. Finally, the vehicle exited at Exit 52 but then reentered the highway going the other direction.

The BMW eventually struck the police cruiser near Exit 64, and the pursuit ended.

Liberato was arrested on charges of DWI, eluding apprehension, possession of marijuana, and bogus documents, among other offenses.
