HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ – A drunk driver injured several people on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights early Monday morning, according to Daily Voice.
The 32-year-old driver ran a stop sign on Henry Street near Route 17 at about 1 a.m. He collided with a concrete curb, causing the vehicle to travel across the southbound lanes before crashing into the center median. Several chunks of the curb flew into the path of northbound vehicles, causing three other cars to crash. Finally, a fourth car hit the drunk driver’s vehicle.
The driver, Hamilton Tobar-Arias of North Bergen, was transported to a local hospital along with five other victims. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
Route 17 lanes in both directions were closed that morning.
Tobar-Arias has been charged assault by auto and driving while intoxicated.
