BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — A 45-year-old man died Wednesday morning after a crash involving a dump truck on the New Jersey Turnpike in Chesterfield, according to NJ.com.

The fatal accident occurred on the southbound lanes of the turnpike, near milepost 55.2, north of Bordentown Chesterfield Road. It was first reported at around 10:50 a.m.

An investigation into the cause of the crash remains underway, but officials said Nelson Gonzalez was operating a dump truck southbound on the turnpike when the truck traveled off the right side of the truck lanes. Moments later, the truck collided with a guardrail and a chain-link fence.

Gonzalez, a resident of Manville, died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

Authorities had the right truck lane shut down for nearly seven hours as an investigation was conducted.
