HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A 48-year-old Union City woman was hospitalized Friday night after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in southwest Jersey City, reports local media.
The incident took place near Martin Luther King Drive and Woodlawn Avenue, in the city’s Greenville neighborhood. Jersey City Police Department officers were called to the scene just after 8:00 p.m.
Officials have not released a sequence of events leading up to the event, but the cyclist was hit by a driver who sped away from the scene. The victim, who suffered “an injury to a lower extremity,” was transported to a Jersey City Medical Center where she was last listed in stable condition.
Due to the severity of the patient’s injuries, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit was called to handle the case.
No further details have been shared, but authorities said the hit-and-run vehicle is believed to have last been seen fleeing northbound on Martin Luther King Drive.
