MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — A 62-year-old woman was fatally injured Friday, December 9, when her bicycle collided with a box truck at an Ocean Township intersection, reports local media.

Ocean Township Police responded to the scene at Roller Road and Deal Road shortly before 8:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 33-year-old Keyport man was behind the wheel of a 2017 Ford E-350 Econoline box truck traveling southbound when he came to a stop at the intersection’s red light. The woman was riding a Schwinn bicycle on the sidewalk of Roller Road when she also came to a stop for the red light. Authorities said that after the light turned green, the box truck began turning left onto Deal Road at the same time the cyclist rode across the street using a marked crosswalk. Moments later, the box truck hit the cyclist, sending her off the bike and about 25 yards beyond the crosswalk.

Medics rushed the victim to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries at 10:14 a.m.

No injuries to the truck driver were reported. Authorities have released any details regarding pending charges.
