UNION COUNTY, NJ — A large semi-truck overturned Monday morning, causing a fuel spill on New Jersey Route 24 near Summit, according to local media.

The accident happened on the westbound highway just east of Exit 9B, near the Interstate 78 interchange, just before 3:30 a.m.

Authorities have not shared the sequence of events leading up to the rollover, but a volume of diesel fuel from the semi emptied out over the roadway.

All westbound lanes in the area were closed as first responders and a hazmat crew worked to clear the scene. Motorists were urged to plan for alternate routes around the area.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
